The Wall Street Journal (online.wsj.com) is speculating that there was a hidden message in the recently announced Yahoo! – Google deal. Google Talk has had a weak market share when it comes to instant messaging – only 5 percent of the U.S. market – while Yahoo! has been dominant. Although Internet marketing and advertising via instant messaging is in its infancy, analysts anticipate that IM advertising has huge growth potential – especially in mobile technology. It could be that Google is, once again, ahead of the curve.
